Description

19th century silver pot pourri box with a glorious scene of the birth of Jesus to the cover. This rectangular, hinged lidded box has a plain base with an engraved inscription (25 year silver wedding gift?)and foliate decoration to the sides. The lid is an absolute wonder! The whole lid is beautifully hand pierced in foliate pattern, and the centre plaque is charmingly engraved with a scene depicting The Nativity; the baby Jesus in the manger, surrounded by Mary, Joseph, and various angels. Not only is this a truly fine piece but it is also by the finest maker of this genre, Ludwig Neresheimer. A good size, great quality box.
