19th. century silver box with painted inset to lid; of oval form with hinged lid, the sides and outer lid are foliate scroll decorated. The interior is finely gilt. The inset to the lid is both wonderful and intriguing; the scene is of three charming cherubs, with a goblin to the background. Set in woodland, this blissful idyll is reminding that the devil may always be lurking! Of top quality, this good sized box is a good collectable piece.
